Jim Porter's Good Time Emporium

My friend and I will be spending a weekend in Louisville next month. We have heard about Jim Porter%26#39;s and have thought about going there on Saturday night. We are both 40 but live the ';40 is the new 30'; lifestyle so we were wondering if maybe the JP crowd will be a little too old for us. We have heard it is nicknamed ';The Wrinkle Ranch';?????

We usually go to Omalley%26#39;s Corner (Vinnie%26#39;s and Coyote%26#39;s) but have heard that they are not as good since the renovation and renaming.

We love weekending in Louisville so we will should a good time no matter what.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I haven%26#39;t been inside Jim Porter%26#39;s in a loooong time, but it is true that it is called ';The Wrinkle Room';. You could give it a try and if you don%26#39;t like the crowd, try Stevie Ray%26#39;s Blues Bar on Main St. or Zena%26#39;s Cafe (also on Main).

Jim Porter's Good Time Emporium

Well...I love Jim Porter%26#39;s and was in there last week sitting in on keyboards with the Flying Martinis. The band can influence the crowd quite a bit. There are usually older people early in the evening and there is a lot of dancing. The crowd gets younger as the night progresses. You may also want to go to Captain%26#39;s Quarters on River Road. During the summer, there%26#39;s a band outdoors and it%26#39;s really festive. I don%26#39;t care to go to places with recorded music, but that%26#39;s just me. Phoenix Hill Tavern has 3 bands, but the demo there is usually 21-30. Check the Louisville web site as well, because we often have concerts down on the Belvedere and waterfront parks.

We ended up going to Vinnie%26#39;s and was disappointed. I think something was lost during the renovation. It was not the 70s, 80s, and 90s ';disco'; that we had enjoyed before. Also, the 2 DJs that were such crowd pleasers were almost non-existent that night. The music was more top 40 stuff and the crowd was very mixed, not the crowd that frequented the club before. It may have been an off night for us, but we will definitely try Jim Porter%26#39;s or Stevie Ray%26#39;s the next time. May possibly try out 4th Street Live.
