Need some help,
I am planning a bachelor party for about 20 guys and am looking into the Bardstown Rd. and 4th St. areas in Louisville. The gentlemen that will be attending are seriously into metal music and well, drinking.
Does anyone have any recommendations on a metal bar or harder rock bar? I%26#39;m also trying to figure something to do during the day in the outdoors. These guys aren%26#39;t the golfing type but anything like parks to have some burgers and beer or white water rafting etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Nick
Metal Bachelor PartyPhoenix Hill Tavern is a pretty cool club. It has been several years since I have been there, but that used to have some really good cover bands. There are usually 3 bands playing at a time in different parts of the club. Check out http://www.phoenixhill.com/ to see if it is your kind of place. My husband is not really the ';golf'; type either, so for his b-party, they went to the race track. Maybe you should consider Churchill Downs. Hope this helps!
Metal Bachelor PartyI%26#39;ll second the idea of visiting Churchill Downs--you will have a fantastic time and one of you might hit it rich. The Spring meeting begins the last week in April.
The Back Door on Bardstown Rd might be along the lines you want. It%26#39;s kinda divey but they do play rock/metal. Lots of pool tables too. Heck, last time I was there I met a dude with a face tatoo%26#39;d into the back of his bald head. Freaky stuff.
I also hit that place during my my buddy%26#39;s bachelor party...but we were bar crawling and I dont remember much that night. :) FYI Highly recommend the crawl if thats an option for you.
Tell us what time of year you are going to be here and I might be able to help some. I think Churchill Downs is a great day time activity. 4th Street Live might be Ok but it tends to cater to singles and clubbers, not heavy metal. Angels Rock Bar is as close as it gets down there.
The band scene is very variable because it depends on who is playing and where. Some of the most dependable bars are PourHaus, Headliners, Uncle Pleasants and a few others... Check out our two local freebie papers Leo and Velocity, both have online versions for better details as you firm up a date.
If you guys are into playing in bands you should check out The Guitar Emporium on Bardstown Road. It%26#39;s like a guitar museum and a must do on every rock guitarist as they come through town.
Thanks,
Thank you for everyone%26#39;s input...all good ideas. I think I will be heading to the Bardstown area and we%26#39;ll go from there.
I did have one more favor to ask. I am looking to go to a park area and have a cookout during the day and just play some great American past times like corn hole, badminton, wiffle ball etc. along with some beer. Does anyone know of a good park area around there that would allow this type of good time to take place? Or if anyone has another day time activity that sounds nice. That Guitar Museum is not a bad idea.
The plan is to head from Indy Friday morning May 23rd. and drive back that Sunday so I have some time to kill Saturday during the day.
Thanks again for all the help, you people are amazing.

As DerbyCity recommended, definitely check out Velocity and LEO for live bands. Headliners is the bigger venue and hosts touring bands.

Louisville has a great park system, so I%26#39;m sure one of the local parks will work for you. Off the top of my head, I%26#39;d check Cox Park which borders the river just 3-4 miles down River Road from downtown.

Cherokee Park in the Highlands has several spots with grills. There%26#39;s one section where there%26#39;s a gazebo with grills %26amp; a basketball court (on top of one of the hills with the fountain, on the loop). Maybe someone else can remember the name of that section. (Not sure if you have to obtain permits etc.) louisvilleky.gov/MetroParks/parks/cherokee/
Waterfront Park which is right downtown may have grill areas, just not as familiar with that park.
For the grillout, Cherokee park at Hogans Fountain or Tyler park. I%26#39;ve freqented both and have grills, tables, and ample room for fun. Cherokee can be more secluded if you get one of the grills back behind the TeePee structure.
Tyler park is within walking distance to Bardstown Rd.

I agree with the suggestion of Cherokee Park for an afternoon of hanging out. Great park. You can get off on some of the trails and do some hiking.
However, (and I hate to be the bearer of bad news) if you decide to pack a cooler of beer, be vigilant about keeping the cans covered, out of sight, beer in a cup, etc. There are no adult beverages allowed in any of the Lou. Metro Parks. And take it from the voice of experience, you can get ticketed. Happened to some friends and me about 20 years ago, but I know the police still patrol the parks pretty frequently.
As suggested, keep an eye on the LEO and Velocity. There might be some kind of outdoor festival going on that weekend that you could try out instead of a park.
I think a day at the Downs would be an excellent idea for a group like yours.
Have fun.
Can%26#39;t thank everyone enough. You helped me out a great deal. The big event is in little over a month. I%26#39;ll let everyone know how it goes.
Thanks again,
leenick
