I piggybacked on another thread but haven%26#39;t had much response. I am going to be in Lexington for Keeneland. I have made reservations at the Hyatt and Springhill Suites at Red Mile. I am debating as to which to cancel. Both are pretty expensive IMO but I want to be in the center of town. I stayed at the Hyatt about 6 years ago and it was OK, but not great. Of course, the location can%26#39;t be beat. I heard they were renovating the Hyatt. Are the renovations still ongoing and has the Hyatt improved? I would really like to be downtown so that we can walk places, but I don%26#39;t want to pay big $$$ for a mediocre hotel with ongoing renovations.
Hyatt Regency
I wish i could answer your question. We were there 2 years ago and had a most unpleasant stay. The reviews here indicate that there still are many problems. If you link my name, you can read the specific problems we had in my review. It was absolutely the worst Hyatt ever.
Have you considered a B%26amp;B? We really enjoyed Lyndon House and also loved Gratz Park Inn.
Hyatt Regency
There is VERY little availability. No B%26amp;Bs in Lexington or the surrounding area have a room according to BedandBreakfast.com for the dates we need. We are 6 deep on the wait list for Gratz Park, so that isn%26#39;t going happen unless the stars align. Apparently it is a UK Alumni weekend as well. We booked our rooms 1 month out from our trip, I guess next time we need to start booking about 3 months out.
I found an article on 3/6 that referenced the Hyatt renovations and it leads me to believe that they are not complete... the quote is below.
';He noted that the Hyatt is undergoing a complete renovation and said that project should provide ';%26#39;a bit of a lift to the market. As our hotel is renovated, Lexington should be more competitive for additional conventions, which should help everyone.%26#39;';
The article was related to a new development and here is the link

According to the Lexington Hyatt site, the renovation is not complete. Check this link out..

This is what it says...

Seems public areas and rooms could still have some work being done.
Ok...last thing
This link has more details. The renovation is not set to be complete until Mid 2008 and they say one floor at a time is being done to minimize impact to guests.

Thanks georgeglass! Awesome info, I shall share with the wife. This will help make our decision.
we stayed there during the fall Keeneland meet and and we didn%26#39;t see much evidence of renovations except an annoucement in the lobby. Our room was barely ok - certainly not worth the $250 which seems to be the going rate. We paid considerably less and other than location I would not have recommended it.
