Lexington Rolex 3 Day Event

Hi

I am planning a trip from the UK to Lexington next April for the Rolex 3 Day Event. I am planning on staying at the Hampton Inn (off of I75). Has anyone got any hints and tips for this event, such as how early do we need to get there? In the UK Badminton Horse Trials causes gridlock in the local area and unless you get in for 8am you can Q for 4 hours on the roads waiting to get on site! Also any advice on the best seats to get for the showjumping. Any advice gratefully received.

I have actually never attended, but I can tell you a couple of things and hopefully others with more knowledge will add in.

You do not have to worry about 4 hour gridlock. The venue is located away from town and is quite large. I knew friends that went last year and they had no problems getting there or parking. Since you are staying off the interstate, you will have no problem getting to the park. I also know that a lot of people bring picnics and have their food on the grounds. I am sure there will be vendors, but there are no places like restaurants to go to around there since it is kind of out in the country.

Thanks that info is helpful. I just don%26#39;t want to get there mega early unless I have to! The catering situation is pretty common in the UK too, Badminton for examples can get away with charging £5.50 for a small jacket potato, we always take a picnic.

I know you said you are staying on the interstate, but if you can go the back way to the horse park via Newtown Pike the traffic is much lighter and you will wait less. Also, you can get into Lexington quickly if you leave the park that way should you want to go to dinner downtown, shop, etc.

I can tell you that getting reservations at any hotel after Feb will be impossible. I suggest the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Gerogetown, it%26#39;s less than 10 min away.
