Planning to spend 4 nights in Oct. and will explore surrounding area as well as Bardstown itself. Looking for healthy, clean and affordable type places to eat both in Bardstown and in surrounding areas - both lunch and dinner hour suggestions welcomed.
Good eating places within hour of Bardstown?
Take a day trip to nearby Glendale. About 7 miles south of Elizabethtown. Very small, quaint town sitting right ';on'; the railroad tracks. Dozens of antique, craft shops. Famous restaurant there named The Whistlestop. Upstairs there also is The Ironhorse which serves a very nice ';silver'; buffet. Dinner only and maybe weekends only, not sure. People drive from all around here just to eat at Whistlestop. Oct 18 is Glendale Crossing, an annual craft festival. Booths set up everywhere!!! HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!! Tons of people from all over come. It%26#39;s wonderful. Hope you have a wonderful visit to Ky!
Good eating places within hour of Bardstown?
Thanks very much for suggestions - for both town and place to eat. I%26#39;ve located on my road atlas. This is my first trip to KY and altho weather out of our control have heard October a nice month to visit.
One of the days I plan to go to Louisville to visit Merton Center at Bellarmine U. I gather about an hour from Bardstown so any suggestions re scenic/nonthruway routes and things worth exploring enroute welcomed.
A couple of other suggestions you might consider...nearby Bardstown is ';Shaker Village Of Pleasant Hill';..this is a village about the life of the Shakers. Beautiful in the fall. Also in nearby Harrodsburg there is a lot of history there. Just south of Glendale you can visit Abe Lincoln%26#39;s Birthplace. Highway 31 is very scenic. I hope you enjoy your visit.
Thank you. I had wondered about Shaker Village and had a look at their site so will check out when there. The Oct. date is now on hold but am glad of these suggestions for when I do get there.
