What to do in Decemer or January in this area

I am thinking of visiting Southern KY during Christmas break and have never vacationed there before. What is there to do during that time of year and what type of weather should we expect. I am considering Cumberland Falls State Park or Berea but am open to suggestions. Any recommendations?

Visit Bourbon county and see the distillaries of woodford resevre, makers mark, and lexington ky. If you have your hart set on southern ky though, check out cumberland falls. The weather to expect will be cold and wet.

The weather will be cold. It%26#39;s currently about 37 degrees here. Our weather can vary pretty quickly, but you could reasonably expect 20%26#39;s to 40%26#39;s during that time.

Depending upon how long you plan to stay, you could run out of things to do at Cumberland Falls State Park. Obviously, you%26#39;ll check out the Falls themselves, but that doesn%26#39;t take that long. There are plenty of hiking trails and horseback riding but weather may impact outdoor activities.

My best advice would be to make Berea or Lexington your base for most of your stay and do either day trip or a single overnight trip to Cumberland Falls.

Berea has the historic Boone Tavern Hotel and a lot of handcrafts %26amp; folk artists to explore. You%26#39;d also be within an hour of Lexington which has the Kentucky Horse Park, Keeneland, fine dining and night life.

You may also want to make a day trip to Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill and/or Bybee Pottery (in Bybee, Kentucky).

The disillery tours are also a great idea. Maker%26#39;s Mark, Heaven Hill, Buffalo Trace are all within an easy drive. Also check out historic Midway, Kentucky. The downtown is really quaint and could be a nice day trip.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. We will look into them as we try to firm up plans.
