Veranese Restaurant

Is anyone familiar with Veranese on Frankfort Ave? Considering it for a dinner for 10 people on Sept 6.

Veranese Restaurant

We%26#39;re considering this restaurant, too, during our visit to Louisville next week. I went to the restaurant%26#39;s website (varanese.com) and everything looks great. Really liked that he had three years experience at Magnolia%26#39;s in Charleston, one of our all-time favorite restaurants. Varanese also received a Diners Choice award from Open Table patrons, if that helps you decide! Would really like to hear from some locals.

We are in Louisville next week for a convention. How about you? Just curious if you might be in town for the same reason. We will be at the Galt House for a federal retirees convention. A group of 10 of us always go out to dinner the first Saturday night we are thre. We were looking at downtown restaurants until I found the Veranese, only about a 7 minute drive per mapquest.

The Veranese looks interesting- it is evidently in an old filling station, but the interior looks very nice and the menu looks great and moderately priced.

I have always received an immediate reply to postings in the past, however with the holiday weekend, many may be traveling and not at their computers.

I haven%26#39;t eaten there since it%26#39;s been Veranese, but I%26#39;ve heard good reviews. This is the local food/restaurant forum. Ask your question here.

WDM--we%26#39;ll be in town to celebrate my wife%26#39;s birthday. We%26#39;re all over the place--she has planned a Louisville Bat%26#39;s game, the Bellarmine show house tour, afternoon tea at some place on Shelbyville Road, the Speed Art Museum, the First Friday Trolley Hop, a yard sale at some historic house, the ballet ';The Great Gatsby,'; some antiquing and lunch at The Colonnade Cafe, the Urban Bourban Trail, breakfast at Wagner%26#39;s Pharmacy, and the Eight Belles memorial service at the Kentucky Derby Museum. We%26#39;ll be exhausted, but it%26#39;s her birthday. She put up with my golfing birthday, so it%26#39;s my turn to graciously participate. If you see a guy falling asleep over his dinner at Varanese . . .

I%26#39;ve answered this question personally but will add my two cents for the board. John Varanese was the chef at the country club where we belong for several years. We loved his creations then. He makes the best crab cakes I%26#39;ve ever had! Plus, he%26#39;s charming and warm and appreciates feedback from his patrons. His place is eclectic...it%26#39;s a transformed gas station with an indoor/outdoor feeling. People stroll up and down Frankfort Ave leisurely. You%26#39;re likely to see people in theatre clothing, business suits and dockers and flip flops. He has elegant entrees and sandwiches on the menu. Truly, something for everyone! Service is great, efficient and friendly. This is an excellent restaurant which is not formal or stuffy. We%26#39;ve been three times and have always been very pleased. There was a recent discussion about ';vegetarian entree'; on request. Apparently, it%26#39;s not an afterthought but an ever changing whim of the chef with the freshest produce available. Enjoy!!

Varanese is a very good choice for a birthday celebration. I have eaten there and thought the food and service were excellent.

I certainly agree with the postive comments above about Veranese. Excellent food and great ambience. There is a jazz group on some nights. You should make reservations as this place fills up - and, if it is a nice night request dinner on the patio. If it is 95 and humid request an inside table where it is air-conditioned. All in all, a great place.

Well, we are here in Louisville and experienced the Varanese this past Saturday night. The food, the service, the ambience was outstanding!!!

We would highly recommend it.

I%26#39;ve enjoyed Varanese twice. It%26#39;s quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants in Ky.
