Anyone have any ideas for a mini weekend trip in KY that has not a thing to do with horses? I am wanting to take my brother on a small trip either this weekend or next but neither of us care for horses. I have been looking around and have not found anything but horse museums and old historic homes. I love old homes but it isn%26#39;t the season for them yet. Any ideas (other then those horses) would be great!
Weekend Ideas (Something OTHER than horses!)
How do you feel about Bourbon?
Weekend Ideas (Something OTHER than horses!)
I am over the age of 21 and have no problem with bourbon but my brother is only 15.
Some ideas.....
1) You could take a trip to Mammoth Cave in Western Kentucky.
2) Go see Cumberland Falls outside of Corbin, KY.
3) There are several Bourbon distillery tours. I think underage is fine on most because they are in dry counties.
4) Trip to Louisville and hit the various museums like The Louisville Slugger Museum, Frazier Arms Museum, Speed Art Museum etc. If you want extra points, you could arrange a private flying lesson for him at Bowman Field. Thunder Over Louisville is April 12th which would also be a lot of fun, but would probably nix the flying idea.
5) Head up to the Newport/Covington area and visit Cincinnati.
6) Bowling Green has the Corvette Museum.
7) Shaker Hill/Shakertown about 20 miles south of Lexington.
Kentucky%26#39;s a wide state--what part are you visiting?
There are many attractions here, beyond the many fantastic equine ones. In Louisville I can recommend the Louisville Slugger Museum which goes well beyond just how baseball bats are made, the Frazier History Museum (weapons %26amp; history), the Speed Art Museum. South of The Ville 100 miles you have Mammoth Caves Natl Park which is fantastic, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. In Elizabethtown at Fort Knox you can visit the Gen Patton Museum if you%26#39;re a military buff.
