I%26#39;ll be in Lexington and Louisville next week, probably flying out of Louisville very early a week from Friday. Is anyone aware of road construction and/or closures going on on I-64 between Lexington and Louisville, or on I-264 near the airport?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Road Construction-Closures I-64 and I-264
My husband just drove from Louisville to Versailles and back today. He says that there%26#39;s a little bit of construction on I-64 somewhere around the Waddy exit, but it isn%26#39;t holding traffic up. They haven%26#39;t closed any lanes. He considered it not a problem. I haven%26#39;t noticed anything near the airport on 264.
Should be an easy trip. Leave yourself around 1.5 hours drivng time and you should be fine.
Road Construction-Closures I-64 and I-264I%26#39;ll actually be leaving from Versailles and driving to the airport. Thank you for your help!
The construction on Waddy is annoying but minimal. No lanes are closed but they do shift a bit. I%26#39;ve not had a hold up on them as that is a pretty low traffic area.
You will end up transferring to Watterson (264) Two quick tips. First, that exit backs up at rush hour. If you are traveling between 2-6 expect some delay getting on the ramp. Second tip: the exit before Watterson, the road becomes 2 lanes. You want to be in the middle lane. The cars merge from Hurstbourne into 3 lanes. Lane 1 (the furthest right) goes off to the malls. Lane 2 (middle lane) can either go on 64 or go on Watterson heading towards the airport. Save yourself the merge and stay in the center lane.
When on Watterson, there is another potental block. Watterson and I-65 back up quite a bit during rush hour. Your exit for the airport is right after this major block. My trick is to get in the far left lane after passing Bardstown Road and then merging over as fast as I can to catch the airport/fairgrounds exit.
Hope this helps. Louisville traffic is actually not bad, and you are not on I-65, or on Spaghetti Junction which is where the real mess is.
Oops that should be 3 lanes.
