We will be in Louisville during Fathers day weekend. I love spending time at the local race track (Canterbury Park) with my two and six year old. They enjoy standing around the finish line and hearing the thundering hooves tample past. They also love to run around and release energy between races.
When I think Churchill Downs I think of the obvious, a rich tradition in horse racing. I also think of a crowd that is so serious about its racing, that children are frowned upon.
Would you recommend small children at Churchill Downs on Fathers day?
We hope to see the races live, but, if not, is the museum worth visiting without the live races?
Thanks for your advice.
Fathers Day at the Downs??????Children are definitely not frowned upon at Churchill. In fact they usually have a ';kids day'; every year specifically for them. They also have a Junior Jockey Club with activities for kids under 12. The times I%26#39;ve taken my girls to Churchill Downs, they liked it and were welcome, but their attention spans were short, so you may want to plan a half a day for the races with a stop at the museum afterward.
Fathers Day at the Downs??????Churchill Downs is very friendly to children, Typically after every race the winning jockey will sign his/her goggles and give them to a child waiting nearby. You can go up to Guest Services and a guide will give you a quick tour including a visit into the paddock where the horses are saddled and the guide will take your picture and print it for free. The museum is excellent--very well done--highly recommended.
