Natural Bridge

Are hikers allowed to cross the Natural Bridge? How long is it and do the Rangers lead groups in this area?

Yes, you can walk across Bridge. It is probably about 50 yards long. It can be accessed via several different trails. The quickest way up is the ';Original Trail,'; which begins near the park lodge. It will take you about a half hour to get up to the Bridge. This trail is well marked, but pretty steep. Take the ';Balanced Rock'; trial back down. It is about a 1 1/2 hour hike, and includes numerous rock houses and a large cave. I believe all of the hikes at Natural Bridge are self guided.

Don%26#39;t forget that Natural Bridge is adjacent to the Red River Gorge, which is spectacular. You can stop at one of the little stores in Slade, just off the Mountain Parkway, and get a free map of the Gorge trail system. As an introduction, the Sky Bridge, Angel Windows, and Rock Bridge trails are recommended.

There is an excellent pizza place on the road to Natural Bridge off the Mountain Parkway, Miguel%26#39;s. Rock climbers are allowed to pitch tents and camp behind the restaurant. Interesting place.
