Hampton Inn Downtown

Just booked our stay. How%26#39;s the neighborhood, walking distance to the baseball stadium, and restaurant recommendations for family of 4 (5 and 6 year old)?

Hampton Inn Downtown

You are right downtown and the neighborhood is fine. You%26#39;re at 101 East Jefferson so you%26#39;re a half dozen blocks from the ball park. With two small children you may want to consider places such as Old Spaghetti Factory to eat--very close to hotel. Yoou%26#39;re also just a few blocks (opposite direction from Slugger Field) from the 4th St Live restuarant and entertainment district.

If you are real baseball fans, take a walk to the Louisville Slugger Museum (Main St between 7th and 8th) and then eat at Luigi%26#39;s (closed Sundays) for very good pizza and pasta. The Science Museum is across the street from Slugger Museum. If you like Mexican food try Los Aztecas on Main Street.

As you can see-lots of family-friendly options near your hotel.

While the Old Spaghetti Factory is good for families, Melillo%26#39;s on Market street is very welcoming to families and has authentic, homemade Italian food, unlike the Ragu style mass produced food at the chain restaurants such as the Spaghetti Factory and no difference in price.

You can enjoy the trolley which goes all over downtown. The waterfront has many activities, including a playground, fountains and a river walk. You can rent bicycles and those ';family carts';. If you are there on a Thursday-Sunday book a cruise on the Belle of louisville. She will be running cruises starting in May-October.

When are you coming? There are many fun events comiing up...

We will be coming to Louisville June 20. We have tix for the Louisville Bats, going to Six Flags, and will hit one of the caves to explore. Any recs on which cave and other ideas to do?

Thanks much on both of your inputs.

Mammoth Cave, about 100 miles South of The Ville, is one of the wonders of the world.

Definitely do Mammoth Cave. They have had some funding cuts and that is a busy time of year for them. You may want to go to their website and get tour tickets in advance. Otherwise, by the time you drive there and wait in line, there might not be any good tours left.

One other point on Mammoth Cave--be aware that it is in Central Time Zone while Louisville is in Eastern Time Zone--so plan your departure time accordingly.

OOO Good point about the time change!!!
