Outdoor Wedding locations in Louisville or Southern Indiana

I have just recently gotten engaged and we are starting to think about wedding locations. Our original choice was Lakeside Reflections in Southern Indiana but we have changed our minds on that location. Currently we are looking for outdoor locations to get married next summer. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Amber. I am a wedding musician and play keyboards. I have a mobile sound system and do many, many outdoor weddings. You always face a problem with outdoor weddings (heat, rain, etc) so it%26#39;s best to plan one where you have a backup location. Locust Grove off Blankenbaker Lane has a lovely garden area and a good reception area as well. It%26#39;s quiet and pretty there. Farmington off Bardstown Road offers much the same, but it%26#39;s VERY loud there with truck, motorcycle noise from the nearby expressway. There are a couple other historic homes where you can have weddings...Whitehall off Lexington Road, Nunnlea off Hurstbourne lane, Peterson-Dumesnil House off frankfort Ave. With these locations, your reception will be in the houses, and the rooms are rather broken up, so it%26#39;s not good if you want a band and dancing. That works best with a tent. One of the prettiest locations is Gardencourt off Alta Vista Road. Gorgeous garden, very peaceful. There are many historic homes in downtown Louisville which serve as bed and breakfast Inns who also host small weddings.

Last year in Louisville, we had record heat. many days the temp was in the 90%26#39;s and humidity was right up there, too. The idea of a lovely garden wedding is nice, but the reality is that you and your guests may very well swelter.I prefer a quick chapel wedding and a reception with an outdoor area! Also look at the Olmstead off Frankfort Ave....you can get married inside or outside. You are best booking as early as possible, by the way. Kye%26#39;s in Jeffersonville does wonderful receptiomns and has a covered courtyard for weddings and outdoor amenities.

Congratulations!

I got married last July at the Derby Museum. The ceremony was in the rose garden outside and we had the reception in the Great Hall. We only had about 100-120 guests but they said they could accomodate upwards of 250.

They did a great job for us. Our guests loved the venue. They have a ';running of the Derby'; multimedia show that was a big hit and everyone loved the displays. Food was great, support staff was great.

My wife and I were married outside at Peterson-Dumesnil House in Crescent Hill. It was perfect for us. Fortunately, the weather was also perfect that day. Not sure what we would have done if it had been rainy. We took our chances and just rented chairs, no tent. I guess we would have moved the chairs up on the porch somewhere or into the big room on the left side of the house. Anyway, we used the big room for dancing. The majority of the guests stayed outside on the porch enjoying the weather. It was Memorial Day weekend, by the way. This was 1994, so the price was very reasonable then. Not sure what they charge for rental now. Or what kind of requirements they have for catering.

Great place, though.

Congratulations and good luck.

Bristol does the catering at Peterson-Dumesnil House. Most places have either an approved list or their own caterer.

I would like to second the ideas of both Locust Grove and Whitehall. I am a reenactor at Locust Grove. The grounds are beautiful. The house is fabulous. It is truly like going back in time. For a couple of hundred dollars extra, you can request reenactors in costume to be present for an hour or two to mingle with your guests as they tour the house. We will meet and greet you as if you have stepped back to 1820. It%26#39;s very cool! I did two weddings last summer, and it%26#39;s a ton of fun for the guests to walk up to the back porch and see real people sitting there as they would have 200 years ago. One couple even had a horse and buggy to carry the guests around the grounds.

Whitehall is very, very pretty as well. The house is not as old as LG, but the grounds are gorgeous and much more formal than LG. There are paved areas with statues and fountains and columns and gates. Tons of great photo ops.

Good luck!

The Conrad-Cauldwell House in Old Louisville is available for weddings. Beautiful Victorian on St. James Court. Unsure of the price.
