Are the Natural Bridge SRP and the Cumberland Falls SRP parks within the Daniel Boone National Forest? Are there admission fees to these state parks or to the national forest? Essentially, is it a park within a park?
In terms of wildlife, I understand there are bears but what about snakes? Are there any poisonous snakes or other critters to beware of?
State Parks and snakes
Yes, it sort of is like a park within a park, and from looking at the map and counties involved, it looks as though both of those state parks fall within the National Forest area. As far as animals and wildlife, I haven%26#39;t heard of any bears, recently, at Cumberland Falls. I am not sure about at Natural Bridge. There are snakes out there, though. I would be most worried about running into a copperhead, although, a rattlesnake would not be completely our of the realm of possibility, depending on where you are hiking. I don%26#39;t think snakes are a huge problem, and they wouldn%26#39;t stop me from visiting, just know to be aware and keep your eyes open. State Parks and snakes
I am terrified of snakes, but I%26#39;ve been going to state parks for 30 years, hiking, horseback riding, boating, etc. The only place I have ever seen a snake was at Otter Creek Park in Meade County. I saw one once on a trail back in the late 80s and some northern water snakes two summers ago in the creek.
We were at Natural Bridge last April, and there are snakes, but if you stay on the trail, you should be fine. Same with bears.
