Our plans have changed - help!

My husband and I are headed to Louisville in the morning for a weekend get-away. Our main plan was to spend the day (Saturday) at the Speed Museum, but I just read on their website that they are closed tomorrow for a party. So, we%26#39;ll go on Sunday...

My question is: what are some suggestions for a nice, lazy day in Louisville? We have done the Bardstown Road shopping thing (which we might do again) but are always open to checking out new things. Even just a recommendation for a good place for a long lunch will do...

We prefer local places over chains - we agree with the whole ';Keep Louisville Weird'; campaign, if that helps with suggestions...

thanks in advance for your help!

Sorry about your plans! One of my favorite things to do for a couple hours is to stroll through Joe Ley%26#39;s antiques. It%26#39;s 3 floors of a huge mansion chock full of all kinds of stuff.

Sunday is going to be pretty here....you can actually stroll for miles and miles along the river front. Have you ever been to the Derby museum? It%26#39;s really a lotof fun as well.

Food, glorious food. We have so many excellent restaurants I am hard pressed to name favorites. Problem is, not many of my favorites are open for Sunday lunch.I will highly recommend Proof on Main in the unusual and eclectic 21C hotel on Main Street. However, they are showing no reservations. If I were you, I%26#39;d call down there and check. You should definitely tour the hotel and don%26#39;t miss the restrooms!

Another HUGE favorite of mine is the divine Sunday brunch in the Oakroom at the historic Seelbach hotel. It%26#39;s expensive, but SPLURGE!!

You should try to make a reservation.

Lynn%26#39;s Paradise Cafe is a local tradition- huge portions, funky decor, but crowded and loud. Bristol has Sunday brunch...not great, but okay. They have a downtown and a Bardstown Road location.

If you decide to visit Bardstown Rd. / Baxter Ave. again you might check out Cave Hill Cemetery. Sounds weird but it%26#39;s gorgeous and more park-like than a normal cemetery. It%26#39;s right there where Broadway dead-ends at Baxter Ave. There is a pond with ducks and birds, etc.

Joe Ley%26#39;s is a good idea, if you like that sort of thing you might check out the flea markets on 7th street. the area is full of strip clubs and not the best place at night, but is TOTALLY fine during the day. if you like flea markets and junk check it out (there is a huge flea market, but the best one is a couple blocks past it on the same side of the road, white building, you%26#39;ll see people with booths in the parking lot.)

Falls of the ohio is a cool park across the river in Indiana. there are also good places to eat in that area with views of the city and the ohio river.

That private party is/was The Speed Ball. It%26#39;s one of the biggest Hish Society social events of the year and it is held in the Museum to benefit the museum every year... I hope you were able to get to the Museum on Sunday. I haven%26#39;t been to see the ';Quilts of Gees Bend'; exhibit yet but I plan to.

The Frazier Museum is great. They%26#39;re having an exhibit on a slave ship that was recently discovered.

Locust Grove Historic Home is having a fabulous used book sale this weekend. Great location, cheap books, and beautiful grounds.

Glassworks is cool to go to to watch beautiful pieces of glass art being made.

I think the new Derby City Antique Mall has opened downtown. It%26#39;s 5 stories as opposed to Ley%26#39;s 3.

We went to the Brown Hotel last weekend and got a drink at the bar and just sat in the foyer and people watched.

I second Lynn%26#39;s. Also Melillos on Market is a great Italian restaurant, but I%26#39;m not sure if they%26#39;re open for lunch. In Saint Matthew%26#39;s, not far from downtown, I highly recommend Havanna Rumba for food! Great Cuban fare.

Hope you enjoy our fair city! Let us know where you end up.

hey y%26#39;all...this is fine for future reference, but they are home by now!!!
