I will be in Louisville with three coworkers in early April for a conference. We are staying at the Marriott Downtown. I%26#39;ve been charged with finding a place where we can have dinner with some business associates but still keep an eye on the basketball games. Is there someplace in the area where we could get a good steak and then hang out and watch the game?
Sports bar and grill?
How fancy do you want? I recall there is a sports bar right next tot he convention center. There is also 4th Street Live nearby. Walk over there and there is a Hard Rock, a Pub, a gumbo place and several bars. You cold hang out there easily.
If I were you, I would splurge on one of the better meals downtown and go over to one of the Fourth Street Live bars to watch the game.
The local newspaper has a food section which rates local restaurants very well. Here is the link. I have found many good places this way. courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section…
Sports bar and grill?
Are you going to be here the first weekend of April? That%26#39;s the last weekend of basketball games. The Marriott has a sports bar, Champions, attached to it. It%26#39;s pretty basic food. I think the Red Star Lounge or Maker%26#39;s Mark at 4th St Live would also have the games on, but I would call first. Hard for me to recommend Hard Rock....I think the food is crappy and too expensive.
You have many excellent dining choices within walking distance. I%26#39;d recommend Morton%26#39;s or Jeff Ruby%26#39;s for a great prime steak if you are on generous expense accounts. Jeff Ruby is the restaurateur of Cincinnati who has opened his first place here in The Ville. He won acclaim last Derby for throwing O.J. Simpson out of the restaurant on Derby Eve. Morton%26#39;s is the Louisville unit of the great Chicago-based prime steak chain. Marriott is at West Jefferson and 3rd St. West Jeff is one block south of Market St and two South of Main St. Jeff Ruby%26#39;s is at 3rd %26amp; Main so you%26#39;re just two blocks away. Morton%26#39;s is at 7th %26amp; Main.
Going beyond steaks---there%26#39;s a local restaurant called Bristol Bar %26amp; Grill withing walking distance in 600 block of Main Street (same block as Morton%26#39;s). Vincenzo%26#39;s (the Gabriele brothers---3rd brother runs the famed Giovanni%26#39;s on The Hill in St Louis) is on Market at 5th and is excellent upscale Italian. You would be uncomfortable there if you did not dress up. At ';4th St Live'; I like The Pub for good English pub food (fish %26amp; chips, etc) and good bar atmosphere.
Jeff Ruby%26#39;s has a huge bar where you can eat....but they have live music, not sure about the games....although Louisville is basketball crazy, I%26#39;d be shocked if they weren%26#39;t on. I absolutely love the place, it is so well managed and always good.I don%26#39;t eat steak, but the last time we were there many in our group of 15 said it was the best steak the%26#39;d ever had. btw....Louisville is smoke free so any bar you visit/eat in will be fine. Many nice downtown places...the Bristol is my least favorite, though. I%26#39;ve had major problems there, not to mention a case of food poisoning. My husband refuses to take clients there as well.
I think someone else mentioned this. But if you decide to watch the game at Champions, you may want to eat somewhere else first. Read this thread from our local restaurant forum. wineloverspage.com/forum/…
I have yet to find a place the OP describes. You either get ';sport'; or ';steakhouse'; but not the both combined. If I were back in Chicago it%26#39;d be a different story.
Vincenzos, Jack Fry%26#39;s, Bristol, and Mortons have all been good to me foodwise, but I didnt notice any TV%26#39;s.
