Coming to town for my 2nd Derby and was wanting to tour a distillery on Thursday. Going to go from airport, what is a good one to try? Don%26#39;t want to drive too far, but I know they are not in town. thanks for any info
DistilleryYou either want to head south to Bardstown or get on 264 east to 64 east and head towards Lexington. There are several in the Lawrenceburg area which is before Lexington but about an hour from Louisville. Bardstown is probably closer. Head down 65 South.
DistilleryI%26#39;d highly recommend driving the 65 miles East to visit the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles (Woodford County). It has a great tour and very nice little museum. The alternative would be to visit Makers Mark in Loretto, South of The Ville. The other distilleries are just not as appealling/visitor friendly.
Makers Mark and Woodford Reserve are the two best choices...
Woodford Reserve is a much easier, prettier drive. You can%26#39;t beat the location.
Woodford it is!!! Thanks for the input. I will let you know how it goes and if I won at the derby too!!!! wish me luck!!
We just went to Woodford.
Great tour, beautiful buildings, awesome setting. The drive back is a highlight to the trip.
Also... get there early if you are on a schedule. The tours are very popular, particularly during race season. We arrived 5 minutes before our tour time and it was sold out, so we had to wait an hour for the next one.
You may want to call ahead to make sure they are open and not closed for a special Derby event. Last year we arrived and were told they were closed. I was able to talk my way into the party. Ended up being a really great time.
