Hotel and Route assistance needed

Hi, we are planning a trip this summer from texas to pittsburgh, pa. We will be driving and plan to stop in the Louisville area to sleep.

Is it better to travel I65 to 265 then to 71? Or are we better off I65 to 264 to 71? We will be coming on a Friday evening and want to avoid traffic.

We will have 2 kids with us and really just want a clean place to sleep before we head off the next morning. Any hotel suggestions are also welcome. Thanks!

Depending on the time of day, but 264 can be a challenge traffic wise. 265 is pretty wide open.

Hi Tex

My opinion: for the ';I just want to get there and avoid traffic'; route, go I-65 to I-265E to I-71.

For a nice place to rest your heads: As you head up I-265, you%26#39;ll pass over I-64. Hop off on I-64 going west. Go up to the next exit, Blankenbaker Pkwy. There is only one exit ramp. Turn left (south) at the end of the ramp. Go to the next light, turn right on Bluegrass Pkwy. Take the next right on Kentucky Mills Rd. and you%26#39;ll find a Country Inn %26amp; Suites. My sister and bro.-in-law always stay there when in town. They say it%26#39;s nice and clean, and reasonably priced.

Have a safe trip.

The I-265 alternative is probably 10 miles longer than I-264. That seems counter intuitive because you reach I-265 first, but I-265 swings so far out that it adds a lot of miles.

Thanks for the tips everyone!

Hey Tex,

It depends completely on what time you think you%26#39;ll hit town. Our rush hour is tame compared to most cities our size, so I wouldn%26#39;t think twice about going to I-264, aka, the Watterson Expressway. The Friday evening rush hour tends to be a bit thinner anyway, especially in the summer, so if you%26#39;re not gonna be here until six or after, I%26#39;d save the time and mileage and go that way.

Another option would be to stop just south of Metro Louisville. There are two decent budget motels at the Brooks, KY exit off of I-65 that will probably work for you. Then you%26#39;d be clean and green for the Watterson on Sat. a.m., no worries.

Either way, if you%26#39;re not pulling into town between 4:40-6:00 p.m., I%26#39;d still try the Watterson.
