I%26#39;m trying to plan a vacation for early August. My girlfriend and I are going to drive down from Indiana.
I%26#39;m looking for some ideas of things to do and a good place to go and stay for a few days. I prefer the outdoors, but my girlfriend won%26#39;t want to camp so it needs to be somewhere we can stay at a hotel, lodge, or cabin.
where to go/what to do?
I would suggest going to Natural Bridge State Park and the Red River Gorge, about 45 miles east of Lexington. It is beautiful area, with all of the hiking and canoing you could ever want. There is a lodge at Natural Bridge, but it stays pretty full. It would probably help if you tried to book during the week. There are also several small motels in the area and and cottage and cabin rentals. Don%26#39;t miss Miguel%26#39;s Pizza, near the entrance to Natural Bridge. Some great Pizza and a unique atmosphere. They rent out campsites behind the restaurant to the legions of rock climbers who frequent the Gorge.
where to go/what to do?If you want something closer to you than the previous poster suggested, check out KY Dam Village SP, Kenlake, or Lake Barkley SP - all have lodges and cabins, but usually have to reserved far in advance. They also all are in easy driving distance to Land Between the Lakes NRA, with lots to see and do. Check out LBL.org for more information.
