We are over on a Thursday night in September, at the Select on W Broadway, any suggestions for 2 guys that is a bit more local than chain. Example - Freddies near the Hotel looks delightfully colourful!! We will be visiting the slugger museum but after that its food, drinks probably try the Bourbon trail when in Rome and all that. Weather at the end of September?
Staying on West Broadway
Weather could be anything . Always check www.weather.com for a forecast. It is usually pretty warm in September, but can be rainy as well. That hotel is a bit out of the loop as far as good local restaurants. However, if you%26#39;re seeking good food I don%26#39;t think Freddie%26#39;s is famous for that. It seems more of a beer dive. What kind of dining and what price? Will you be driving?
Staying on West Broadway
Thanks, we won%26#39;t be driving and might go upscale to Brown%26#39;s for a drink and then the Seelbach. The Fourth Street area looks a bit branded. Probably get a Hard Rock T shirt though. So its any of this area that is a bit different. We are 40 and have a penchant for dives and live music.
Well, I think you need to catch a cab and head to Stevie Ray%26#39;s Blues bar on Main Street; really good bands there. I agree on 4th St Live...not my thing. Canned music , very little live. When you get here, you need to pick up an issue of LEO magazine.

The section called
';unplugged'; lists many places and bands.
I know there%26#39;s an American Music fest going on at the end of September as well.
ZBardstown Road is several miles long of great restaurants, small clubs, shops , etc. I think you would enjoy strolling there and checking it out. Again, your hotel is a bit removed, but it%26#39;s just a couple miles to the east up Broadway to get there.
Hi Spiderpig,
I%26#39;ve got a bit of a thing for dive bars too. And Freddies is certainly a dive. However, you%26#39;re probably going to get bored with it pretty quickly. Mostly a bunch of really old regulars sitting in a very dark room.
You should also try to check a few of these out. Third Street Dive is the closest, but you%26#39;ll probably still have to cab. A youngish, forty year old will feel comfortable in any of the places below.
Third Street Dive - Young, pierced crowd. Live music. Pool table. profile.myspace.com/index.cfm鈥?/a>
The Magnolia (Mag) Bar - Young, hipster, pierced. Best juke box in Louisville. No live music. Cheap drinks. Several pool tables. louisville.citysearch.com/profile/11505427
Seidenfaden%26#39;s Cafe - Young %26amp; old hipsters. Very eclectic crowd. Live music. Pool table in back. Hipster karaoke late night on Wed. %26amp; Sat. Doesn%26#39;t start until around midnight. Very cheap drinks.

The Nachbar - Neighborhood bar meets hipster hangout. Pool table. Live music. Outdoor patio. Good beer selection. http://www.myspace.com/thenachbar
The Pour House - Similar to Nachbar.

Definitely check out the bars %26amp; restaurants along Bardstown Road. For some good pub grub and a good beer selection, try either Flanagan%26#39;s Ale House or O%26#39;Shea%26#39;s (within a block of each other) http://www.osheaslouisville.com/
The Old Seelbach Bar is definitely the best place in Louisville to sample Bourbon. Although you%26#39;ll find at least a couple of Bourbons offered at almost any place you go. Old Forester and Maker%26#39;s Mark are the local favorites. They%26#39;re sold everywhere. Pappy Van Winkle 20 year is the Holy Grail (actually better than the 23 year).
The bars stay open until 4am. Try the Cafe 360 for very late night food. Open 24 hours. On Bardstown Rd.
My PC locked up on the Cafe 360 site. Google it.
Have a good trip!
As you%26#39;ll be visiting the Louisville Slugger Museum you should grab a quick lunch a couple of doors up the street at Luigi%26#39;s pizza and pasta. Luigi%26#39;s from Italy and a European trained chef. After a number of years in Brooklyn he came to The Ville and makes excellent pastas and pizza in a city with few decent pizza options. Then another door or two will bring you to 21C and its excellent little bar--have a Woodofrd Reserve on the rocks there for the real bourbon experience. If you enjoy history and/or firearms you could visit the Frazier History Museum across from the Slugger Museum. The museum has a lot pof items on loan from your Queen Elizabeth%26#39;s collection.
