Mammoth Cave

My husband and I are thinking about going to the Mammoth Caves for a few days in August. the hotels on the park do not seem too attractive, but doable if need be. Any suggestions on where to stay around the Park? Thanks for your input.

Mammoth Cave

We are headed next week for the first time. We decided to stay at the Fairfield Inn in Bowling Green. We agree with you that the hotels in the actual park look rather poor.

Mammoth Cave

We visited last year, and I don%26#39;t think the lodge in the park would be my cup of tea either. We stayed in Cave City at the relatively new Comfort Inn %26amp; Suites. We found Cave City to be very convenient to Mammoth and the other attractions in the area. I have a review of the hotel on this site if you are interested in reading it.

We really enjoyed the Sahara Steak House in Cave City for dinner. It doesn%26#39;t look like much from the outside, but it smelled great, and we were starving after a 2 hour cave tour. Their steaks %26amp; chicken were melt in your mouth, and their vegetable soup was terrific!

One suggestion on touring Mammoth; if you are going in August, be sure to book your cave tour(s) in advance at recreation.gov. Many tours sell out, especially on weekends. We saw many disappointed people when we visited.

Have a great time! You will love the cave.

We chose to stay at the Hampton Inn in Horse Cave (1 exit north of Cave City) because of dozens of good experiences with Hamptons. We were very happy with it. We drove around Cave City and I%26#39;m glad we stayed where we did. The hotels there didn%26#39;t look all that great in Cave City. I submitted a review of that Hampton Inn. Fairfield Inns are comparable to Hampton Inns (Marriott-owned rather than Hilton-owned, both have free breakfasts and pools, etc.) If I returned to the area, I%26#39;d stay there again.
