downtown or on the outskirts

Just wondering about upcoming visit to Louisville...is it better to stay outside city limits or within? Thinking about parking, driving around city and such and wondering which is better alternative? Certainly, staying outside would be cheaper but is it the best way to go?

downtown or on the outskirts

Well it depends a lot on what you plan on doing while in town but downtown is usually where I recommed. Most of the nicer hotels are downtown and you can walk to many of the attractions/restaurants/4th street live clubs. What do you plan on doing on your visit?

Have you considered using Priceline for a downtown hotel? I know that many have stayed at the Hyatt, Galt House or Mariott for less than $60. Bid a 3 star downtown hotel. Unless you%26#39;re here for a special event, it%26#39;s a great way to save $$$. The downtown hotels are serviced by a local trolley which runs from the river to Broadway, and east to west as well.

Check www.biddingfortravel and look at the rates people bid for rooms

We%26#39;ve used Priceline in many cities both in the US and internationally. It has saved our company a small fortune!

I worked in the hotel business for a couple of years downtown and this is what you should know:

The best hotel to stay in are

21C Hotel Museum: (this is a boutique hotel/modern museum built a few years ago with a great restaurant and it is right on museum row)I love this place because you tell give them a list of music before you come and they will download it to the ipod in your room. The rooms are also really comfortable

The Brown Hotel: Built in 1923 it is Georgian revival. They have super comfy beds in rooms with antique English style furniture. They have a great gift shop and an art gallery. The lobby is beautiful and they have a casual restaurant and an upscale restaurant that is known and liked by the locals. About 4 blocks from ';4th street live'; where there are a lot of chain bars and clubs.

The Seelbach: Built just before the Brown. The rooms are small but comfortable. They have a wicked bar and a very pretty lobby. The Rookwood room in the basement is a one-of-a-kind room made entirely of Rookwood tiles. It is amazing. On ';4th street live'; where a lot of bars and clubs are located.

Marriot: (This refers to the more upscale Marriot downtown) New and comfortable. Nice rooms, lovely lobby, Near 4th street live but not on it.

The down side to staying downtown is that there just isn%26#39;t much clothing shopping. However, there are a lot of other things to do including the aforementioned museum row ';Muhammad Ali Museum'; ';Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft'; ';Frazier Historical Arms Museum'; ';Science Museum'; ';21C-21st century art museum'; As well as Actors Theatre of Louisville where many famous actors got their start, the Kentucky Center for the Arts, The Louisville Ballet, and Gallery Row on East market with a lot of art galleries and small unique gift shows.

Glassworks on West Market is also a great place to visit. You can watch glassblowers at work or take a lesson.

Thanks for all the help. We haven%26#39;t decided as to when we%26#39;ll go but I%26#39;m keeping all of your suggestions. Thanks again!
