Best route from Harrisburg PA?

Will be staying overnight in Harrisburg PA coming and going from Ottawa to Louisville and there seem to be a number of route options, all of which seem to be in the 9 hour range.

Have never been to KY and since Oct. gather a scenic time to view so interested in suggestions re most scenic that would fit within the 9 hours. Wondered about down 81S as far as Lexington VA and then 64W to Louisville in terms of how long/scenic that route would be?

Best route from Harrisburg PA?

Hi Avoca

My father-in-law lives in Lancaster PA (very close to Harrisburg) and we%26#39;ve driven several times.

We initially tried both routes (I-64 through VA) and Penna Pike/I-70/I-71 through Ohio and we settled on the Ohio route. Probably not as scenic, but that wasn%26#39;t our priority. We just wanted to get there quick and hassle free.

So, if you%26#39;re looking for scenic, I%26#39;d suggest the VA route. That part of Ohio is anything but scenic.

Thanks - wondering how long the 70/71 would take me? If shorter may take it back.

I had another measure of the 81S down to 64W and it would be closer to 12 hours so will rule that out. The other route linking to 64W further in would be to pick up 79S to Charleston and it looks like it would be doable in 9ish hours from Harrisburg and wondered if a little more scenic?

The linking of I-64 West via Charleston most would say is scenic. Especially during the fall.

Thank you - will plan on taking that going as I have full day and will get a feel for timing from/to Harrisburg.

Still interested in hearing about timing for 70/71 route as will be leaving KY late morning returning to Harrisburg so shorter route might be better.

We are about 10.5 hours from Louisville to Lancaster, or Lanc - Lou.

But, we have 3 kids. Plenty of stops for potty, lunch, dinner, etc.

Thanks - think that would put it in the 9ish hour range for me from Harrisburg so will compare with the VA/WV route going.
