Best route from Corbin to Slade

We will be going from Cumberland Falls state park to the Natural Bridge area. Our cabin rental is in Slade. According to mapquest we can go on I75 or route 30 which is much longer. We are not in any hurry and wonder which would be more interesting? If there are no sights on the way, we%26#39;ll just take I75 but we are open to suggestion.

Best route from Corbin to Slade

I don%26#39;t think there%26#39;s much of anything on 30 (grass, hills, trees and rural houses). It%26#39;s a two lane road which would make the driving slower.

I%26#39;d take I-75 and pop over to Hwy 25 (which parallels I-75 from Corbin to Richmond. It%26#39;s also a two-lane road which meanders from town to town. You can jump back onto I-75 at lots of locations (London, Livingston, Mt. Vernon, Renfro Valley, Berea, Richmond) When I commuted to college between Corbin and Richmond, I%26#39;d take Hwy 25 to break up the monotony of the drive.

A few sites along the way........

Levi Jackson Park in London (takes about 20 minutes to see it all)

Renfro Valley Barn Dance/Music Center

Berea (lots of arts %26amp; crafts). Note - Beware the Spoonbread Festival. I hear there%26#39;s very little spoon bread.

Historic Boone Tavern Hotel %26amp; Restaurant in Berea

Bybee Pottery in Bybee, KY

Valley View Ferry (in Richmond find State Road #169 aka Tates Creek Ave. a few blocks west of downtown off Main St. on the left)

Ft. Boonesboro a bit north of Richmond. Kids would love the replica of the fort with period actors etc.

Halls on the River (very close to Ft. Boonesboro for some beer cheese)

Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill (about 25 miles south of Lexington) would be a little out of your way, but would be a neat stop. Rice the Dixie Belle Riverboat.

If you do swing over toward Lexington, check out the Kentucky Horse Park and/or Keeneland Horse Racing Track. Keeneland is surrounded by beautiful horse farms. They may or may not be racing depending upon the time of year you are visiting.

......and there%26#39;s always the Ale 8 One Soda Company. You can make reservations to tour the factory. www.ale8one.com/index.html…

Have a great trip.

Would you know what the elevation is in that area? I know it%26#39;s in the mountains, but how high is it? We don%26#39;t have an SUV and hope our little car will do OK.

Unless you%26#39;re driving on poorly maintained dirt roads or trails, I can%26#39;t imagine that you%26#39;d have any problem. In fact, the highest area of Kentucky is much further South and East than where you%26#39;ll be. Black Mountain (elevation 4,139 ft.) is in Harlan County near the Virginia border.

As you travel northeast from the Corbin area, the land becomes more like rolling hills. In and around Lexington, it%26#39;s pastureland. As I mentioned, I used to drive from Corbin to Richmond daily during college. I drove a 1980%26#39;s Toyota Corolla.

It may get a little hilly in the Natural Bridge area, but I really don%26#39;t think you have anything to worry about. My friend goes camping in Red River Gorge frequently. She drives a Toyota Celica.
