oops...hit the button.. The Mid American truck show is in Feb or March at the Fairgrounds. It is very busy and sells many rooms. if that%26#39;s the one you are attending, you might want to stay at the Executive West Hotel which is being converted into the Crowne Plaza. The work should be completed by then and it should be pretty nice. Other than that, the airport hotels are acceptable and the Hampton and La Quinta and a couple others are nice, modest hotels. The B%26amp;Bs will be a bit away.. however, plan on driving for restaurants. There are just SO few choices anywhere close to the Expo center.

thankyou.

yes i meant the mid american truck show that%26#39;s held in march 2009.

how far away is down town from the expo centre?

i am thinking of staying in a hotel there as myself and my daughter (2yo) will be able to walk to various spots and restaurants while my husband attend the show. we will attend but i think she will only last for half a day.

what would a cab fare cost there and back or would the hotels down town run some sort of shuttle?

thanks

C

I think some of the downtown hotels will shuttle you there for a fee. I know several of them do that at conventions. However, it%26#39;s just a few miles from the downtown hotels, so it%26#39;s not a major expense. Is your husband with any type of business? Sometimes they organize free transportation to and from downtown hotels. I think your idea of staying downtown is excellent! Though it might be VERY cold in March (middle of winter) some of the downtown places are linked by a walkway (Hyatt, 4th St Live) and by a trolley that runs all over downtown to the attractions. I know your daughter will have plenty things to hold her interest. The truck show gets very loud and very crowded...I don%26#39;t know how much would hold her interest.

If you want an experience, you could try one of the Old Louisville B%26amp;Bs. Or the Highlands if you want to shop for yourself and walk around more, but either way you would need to rent a car. Downtown charges more for parking, many of the outside hotels have free parking. The downtown restaurants are often more expensive.

For restaurant reviews, go to the Louisville newspaper www.courierjournal.com. Fiddle around a bit and you should be able to find restaurant reviews in all price ranges.

FYI, there is public transportation from Downtown to the Fairgrounds via bus (the TARC) but check the schedule carefully before leaving as the buses only stop at certain times and do not run much after 6. This might be an option for your husband going to the show, but DO NOT take it with all your luggage. Major hassle and no one does that here. Oh, if you want a more local experience but still a hotel, try the Brown Hotel downtown. Locally owned with a lot of history. The Seelbach has plenty of history as well, but can be pricier in my opinion.
