I am coming into town for a week long conference at UK. Last year I stayed at the Doubletree Guest Suites and while the hotel was really run down I enjoyed it%26#39;s close proximity to Panera Bread Company and the UK campus. I understand the hotel has undergone some rennovations. I drove by the Hilton Suites last year as well. It appeared to be near several good restaurants PF Changes, Macaroni Grill, etc and lots of shops. I understand it has just gone through a major rennovation as well.
Which hotel do you recommend or should I scrap them both. I will have a car so as long as I can get to UK in ten minutes or less I will be happy.
Thanks in advance.
Which hotel
I haven%26#39;t stayed at the Hilton Suites in quite awhile, so I don%26#39;t know all that much about the room conditions. When I stayed there, it seemed reasonable and clean. The hotel is adjacent to Joseph-Beth Booksellers, which is an amazing book super store with everything you can imagine. There%26#39;s also a comedy club, a couple restaurants, and a Whole Foods Store in that same complex. You are also close to the mall and other restaurants.
If you would rather explore downtown, where a lot of the non-chain restaurants are located, you have the Hyatt, Raddison, and Gratz Park Inn. Those places are also very close to UK. Good luck!
Which hotel
For something different, I would definitely suggest the Gratz Park Inn downtown. There are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance, ranging from pub grub to fine and fancy.
The Hyatt downtown has just completed a major renovation, and would be worth a look also. It is adjacent to Rupp Arena.
