hi
my wife and i will be in louisville for a couple of days in mid september (3 nights from 13th)
we are just looking for a little advice on places to stay, we would prefer to be in walking distance of restaurants/bars/nightlife as we are there to enjoy ourselves.
Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated

Where to stay, what to see
You see the little list of things pertaining to Louisville over there on the left? There are some of us who write for TA who have compiled ';golists'; about activities, sights, etc complete with links. This would be a good place for you to start, then ask any other specific questions. I suggest staying at a downtown hotel. Plenty of good walking in downtown Louisville.
Where to stay, what to see
The Seelbach and the Hyatt Regency are both within stumbling distance of 4th Street Live, a food and drink laden entertainment complex.
I%26#39;d walk from either to both the Louisville Slugger Musuem %26amp; Factory and the Muhammad Ali Center.
I%26#39;d definitely take a short trip to Chruchill Downs, the home of the Kentucky Derby. The track will not have live racing in Sept., but you can visit the adjacent Kentucky Derby Museum, take a tour, and stay at the Downs%26#39; off track betting facility for awhile afterwards if you wish.
Hi Mark and Pol,
I was poking around on Flickr.com and ran across this photo set. I don%26#39;t know the photographer, but he%26#39;s taken some really great photos around the ';ville';. Thought you might like to see them. To find out where an individual photo was taken, just roll your mouse over it and click on the ';i';.

Also if you have a rental car, you may want to take a bourbon distillery tour. There are several within an hours drive. Here%26#39;s a couple of blog articles The Paupered Chef wrote about his trip to the Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve and Maker%26#39;s Mark distilleries.

Note: Be sure to read the comments below the second article about how to join the Ambassador%26#39;s club and get your name on a barrel.
I%26#39;d also recommend that you seek out some Bluegrass music while you%26#39;re here.
We ate lunch at the Captain%26#39;s Quarters on our way through Louisville and it was just delightful. The food and service was excellent. They have tons of outdoor seating, right on the river. Literally, RIGHT on the river when we were there a couple weeks ago. It was interesting to see the yacht clubs along a beautiful drive. We live in St. Louis and it was nice to see how well their river is used for recreation.
A couple other things you might consider while you are here. The Old Louisville neighborhood (St James Court) is a nice place for a short walk - shady, fountain, nice architecture. Could be a good stop if you head out from downtown to Churchill. If you are staying downtown, a walk over to the 21C hotel/museum is fun. And Jockey Silks bar in the Galt House is a fun place to taste a few bourbons - I was there recently and their prices were half-price (not sure how long that will last).
