Suggestions for Hotels and things to see in Louisville

We%26#39;re planning a trip to Kentucky (Louisville and Lexington) for the 4th of July weekend and the following week. We%26#39;re flying in on the 4th and planning on going to the races at Churchill Downs on the 5th. Can you tell me the best area of Louisville to find a hotel if we%26#39;re going to Churchill Downs? I%26#39;m thinking we%26#39;ll be hitting some other attractions on Sunday and then driving to Lexington to visit horse farms on Monday. Any suggestions for other must see%26#39;s in Louisville?

As far as hotels, I would suggest a downtown location. The Brown and The Selbach, are historical charming hotels. And Hotel 21C is rated #1. If you want evening entertainment, 4th Street live is a lively night spot you can walk to. As far as things to do, visit the Ky Derby Museum, Louisville Slugger Musuem, or the Muhammad Ali Center. There will be a concert at the waterfront that weekend. This is a great park at the river with walking trails, bikes, carriage rides. www.louisvillewaterfront.com. You can take a trolley ride around downtown also. Also, Bardstown Road has excellent restaurants, antique shops, and many bars and pubs that are fun.

Please refer to my golist that I wrote for this site. It has links to lots of attracions.

I agree that downtown hotels are nicer than anything closer to the track (airport hotels) You might also want to consider one of the excellent B%26amp;Bs in Old Louisville. You%26#39;ll get loads of charm and lots of personal attention.

there are some moderately priced hotels near the track on Crittenden Dr. and they would have easy access to the interstates.Hilton Garden Inn is a nice one and there are several other new ones across the street.Downtown would be nice for the activities on the 4th.But the hotels on Crittenden Dr would be about 5 min from downtown

First of all I AM FROM IOWA TOO! And planning a trip to Lousiville arriving on July 3 and going to the races July 4. You better check the racing calendar as I am pretty sure there are no races on July 5 - only July 4 and the last race of the season, July 6. Hope that does not ruin your plans.
