Also, check out the Kentucky Horse Park (http://www.kyhorsepark.com/)
Shaker Village
(http://www.shakervillageky.org/)
Check out Keeneland, one of the prettiest racing tracks in the country. Races are not happening right now, but you can still tour, eat breakfast, and watch morning horse work outs. (http://ww2.keeneland.com/default.aspx)
If you want to tour a horse farm, look at a few of the recent threads about that. Three Chimneys is probably the best option.
As far as food and lodging, there are a lot of options. If you%26#39;ll have a car, you should be able to get around pretty easy from any part of town. There are 3 main options downtown, (Hyatt, Radisson, Gratz Park Inn) Depending on what you are looking for and what you want to pay. There are also some B%26amp;B%26#39;s like the Lyndon House. There are also many options not too far from downtown on Broadway (SpringHill Suites, Crowne Plaza Campbell House, Holiday Inn Express on Virginia Ave. Most people either stay downtown on somewhere to the south of town. The Hamburg area at Man-O-war and I75 is another option. There are lots of hotels and shopping and restaurants (doubt there is anything there that Columbus would not have...kind of becoming its own little town.
In my opinion, the best restaurants are downtown. Some more expensive than others. Mia%26#39;s, Bistro 147, A La Lucie, Columbia%26#39;s, Atomic Cafe are all on Limestone. Look at some of the other posts about Restaurants and there is one that has a listing of most of the restaurants in Lexington.
Also, Midway is a cool little town about 20 min from Lexington in the middle of horse farms. They have a lot of antique shops and good places to eat.
I feel like this was information overload. Let me know if you have more specific questions.

Downtown can be a fun place to stay. Definitely stop by Bigg Blue Martini in the Radisson for a drink. They have great martini-like drinks, many based with bourbon.
Bourbon distillery tours can be fun. We like Woodford Reserve.
We like Atomic Cafe too. For someplace casual try Pazzos Pizza near campus. They have great beer selection. Try the KY Ale Bourbon Barrel Ale if they have it.
If you are looking for mall shopping Fayette Mall has a decent selection. Hamburg place has a lot of options. For local unique shops there are some here and there around town, but not really a good area where its all local shops. Downtown would be the best place for that, but still limited in my opinion.
Thanks for all of the great information!!!
I realize this is too late to do you any good now, but maybe for next year, LOL; I always like to take advantage of the high visitor rate at local cemeteries on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Something about being a woman alone walking around a deserted graveyard just gives me the creeps, but there are always families galore tending headstones and even ceremonies honoring the war dead going on at these times; then one can walk around in comfort and ease. The Lexington Cemetery (also an arboretum) is a gorgeous place with many famous and infamous graves, a couple of ponds with fountains and swans; just a lovely spot to spend the day browsing, esp. if you%26#39;re a history buff (Henry Clay is buried there, among other notables). Same for the Frankfort Cemetery (on a bluff overlooking the Kentucky River and downtown), featuring Daniel Boone and Paul Sawyier and Cave Hill in Louisville with Colonel Sanders. Don%26#39;t forget the little churchyards, such as the one on Pisgah Pike. Enjoy!
