thinking about bringing family with 21/17 kids to Lexington for this weekend...are there any special events for July 4th ?
July 4 th events!
Downtown Lexington is full of people and things to do on the Fourth. Bluegrass 10,000 race is early in the morning, then Main and Vine Streets open up at 9:00 with vendors, farmer%26#39;s markets, food stands, beer stands, etc, all day. There is a parade at 2:00, and a continuous concert behind Rupp Arena from 2:00 until 10:00 pm. I believe most of the bands are of the country persuasion, and some pretty big names. Fireworks are downtown at 10:00 p.m. This year the fireworks are being produced by the same company that does the Thunder over Louisville fireworks at Derby and the Times Square fireworks on New Year%26#39;s eve.
Basically, there will be a lot of people milling around downtown all day. Its generally pretty fun, as long as it is not to hot.
July 4 th events!
We go downtown every year and always have a lot of fun. On Vine Street close to Quality St, there is usually a childrens area with some small rides. If you have little kids, it might be good for them.
July 4th is our favorite time to spend the entire day downtown. There are bands set up all along Vine St. I think there is generally a listing in the newspaper of the schedule and locations. On July 3rd there is a patriotic concert on the grounds of Transylvania University. We always bring a cooler and picnic while listening to the philharmonic and the Lexington Singers. This is one of our favorite traditions. Hang out at Magee%26#39;s in the morning of the 4th and watch the race, venture downtown afterwards and take in all the festivities!
can you see the fireworks show from downtown
Yes. The fireworks explode over the downtown area.
Everyone else has hit the nail on the head. If you looking for something to do you want to head downtown. Downtown is the place to be to see the fireworks at about 10 or 1030pm. Be careful downtown though. There will be alot of people. ALOT.
thank you to everyone....daughter just graduated from transylvania and this will be our farewell to lexington...you have a GREAT city...we will be downtown enjoying the fireworks!
