In 5 weeks time I%26#39;m going to be moving my life from Kent, in the Southeast of England, to Lexington, Kentucky for 2 years and would really like ANY advice anyone can give me about the area, weather etc etc! I%26#39;m going to be studying at the University of Kentucky and will hopefully be getting a graduate apartment on campus. It%26#39;s extremely daunting enough to be moving for so long, so far away, however it%26#39;s made even more so by the prospect of having to fit my life into two suitcases! Eek!
I would like to know what clothes I should arrive with (I was hoping to home to England for Christmas and collect my winter clothes, coat, scarfs etc, but will this be too late?). I%26#39;ve heard the weather in Kentucky goes from one extreme to the other. Also I want to know what the local restaurants are like, any European cuisine? Or are there supermarkets / smaller shops that sell a range of produce, or is it mainly American food in the area?
Absolutely any advice you can give would be very much appreciated!

I'm moving to Lexington from the UK - please advise!
Hi Vikki,
The weather here isn%26#39;t much different from the southern UK. It%26#39;s probably a little hotter (and way more humid) in the summer and probably a little colder in the winter. And it certainly can change quickly.
Today our high temp is going to be 77 degrees and tomorrow they are forcasting a high of 85 (which will probably end up being more like 90). We always have at least a few days in the summer that reach 100+ (in July and August).
We usually start having cold days in late October. You%26#39;ll need some of your winter clothes before Christmas. You could always have them shipped over.
There are some really good restaurants in Lexington. I think you%26#39;ll be pleased. Here%26#39;s a list someone compiled. For those that don%26#39;t have links, you can probably google the restaurant name %26amp; Lexington and find a menu or review. tripadvisor.com/Travel-g39588-s501/Lexington…
You won%26#39;t have any problem finding produce and groceries. There are tons of supermarkets and lots of smaller shops. You should also check out the local farmers markets for fresh produce %26amp; local products. Although much of Kentucky is rural, Lexington is very much a city.
You can also look forward to horse racing when Keeneland race track opens for the Fall meet on October 3rd. They filmed parts of Seabiscuit there.

Brilliant! Thank you so much, that information was really helpful! Especially the list of restaurants you gave me a link to - it gives me a good idea on what type of restaurants and prices! I%26#39;m starting to get really excited about the move over now, and your knowledge has certainly given me peace of mind. Thanks!
Glad to help! I stumbled across a couple of other blurbs about Lexington restaurants etc. There%26#39;s a ton of info in these two articles. Here you go....

One thing I want to add. Be careful when you drive here. People here cannot drive that well. Watch yourself on the major roads such as (nicholasville rd, man-o-war, and new circle). Just leave enough space from the car in front of you. People here like to brake alot so remember that when your driving.
