Powerful winds from Hurricane Ike has created a disaster in Louisville and surrounding states. The golf course at Valhalla is being cleaned and the power is on, thankfully. However, there are as many as 200,000 without power at this time. Businesses and residences are affected. I suggest that if you are renting a home you should call ahead to check the status. Crews estimate that it may take a week or more to restore power here. It is a mess out there.
Coming to Ryder Cup? Call ahead...power is out!
What LLindaC said! I%26#39;ve actually heard as high as 300,000 without power and 10-14 days in some areas to get it back on. Lots of trees parts down.
I hear from friends that St. Matthews got some of the worst of it. We%26#39;re in The Highlands and I am happy to report that Old Town Liquors is OK.
Also, cells phones may or may not be working depending upon your provider. We have AT%26amp;T (Cingular) and do not currently have coverage in/around Bardstown Rd./Highlands area. Although I%26#39;ve talked to other friends who are finding coverage spots as they drive around the city.
I%26#39;m also hearing reports that people are lining up at gas stations for some reason. None of us can figure out what that%26#39;s about. Precautionary I guess (or expectations that prices are going to spike?)
Best of luck to everyone! Hopefully, things will be closer to normal before all the visitors arrive.
