Places to eat

We are staying at the Raddison the Friday of the Makers Mark hub-bub and could use some info and suggestions.

How far is the hotel from the Keeneland track? We will be driving in from Louisville that morning and wanted to maybe check in before the races.

Any suggestions for supper near the Raddison and would I need reservations that particular night?

Breakfast the next morning? Even on the way to Loretto?

And finally - any suggestions of a place that would fix a ';picnic style'; lunch for us to take to the distillery with us?

Thanks very much, we are looking forward to the trip.

Russ from Downtown Colorado

Places to eat

By the way, we would much more prefer locally owned places and with local fare.

No offense to TGI Fridays,Crackerbarrel, etc. but you have to support the local places. Plus, I don%26#39;t travel to Kentucky for Mexican food.

Places to eat

RussL, there are plenty of great places to eat downtown, within easy walking distance from the Raddison. We like to go somewhat upscale, and here are some restarants which rarely disappoint: Dudley%26#39;s, A La Lucie, Le Deauville, Metropol, Gratz Park Inn. If you want a steak house, Columbia is a good bet. There are plenty of other good places but these are the ones which come to mind which you can walk to in 15 minutes or less from the Radisson. Definitely make reservations for any of them. If you plan to be at the track all day, I suggest 8:00 or so, to give yourself time to clean up and change clothes. The track is perhaps 20 minutes away (by car). It can be considerably longer depending on the traffic leaving the track.

De Shay%26#39;s is right there. it is a great steakhouse. If you are driving from louisville it would be much closer to go straight to keeneland. Get off of I-64 at the frankfort/versaills exit and go towards versaills (pronounced Ver-sails not Versi) follow the signs. For breckfast look for the nearest Ramsey%26#39;s. there are several in lex. they have an awesome breckfast. Check out the Big Blue Martini in the lobby of the raddison. It is very good on sunday nights. hope you have fun.

The Raddison is maybe 10 minutes from Keeneland.

All the suggestions made by the two previous posters are good bets for high quality, local food downtown. Ramsey%26#39;s is great for breakfast or a low key, reasonably priced lunch or dinner. Go to the one on East High St, they have a few around Lexington, but they aren%26#39;t a ';chain';. It is about as ';Kentucky'; as you get food-wise. Ramsey%26#39;s might actually be a good place to call about a picnic style lunch too.

If you are looking for a night spot, Cheapside Bar and Grill is a nice place. They always have live Blues on the weekends and if the weather is decent, they have an incredible patio.

If you want to try some local dishes try a ';Kentucky Hot Brown'; or ';Derby Pie';. Yum!

I live downtown, and have to say that Alfalfa%26#39;s is my favorite for breakfast/brunch. It is heavily vegetarian, but also has plenty of meat otpions. Magee%26#39;s Bakery on Main Street is also a nice option. I think Jonathan%26#39;s does a nice job with creating innovative regional foods and is downtown as well. Cheapside is good, but more casual. It has a GREAT patio. The patios are all nice in Lexington, a great fringe benefit of our smoking ban!

Bellini%26#39;s is also good Italian. If you want to go out about 10 mintues to Tates Creek Road, Malone%26#39;s, Sal%26#39;s, and Merrick Inn are really close together. There is also a Fresh Market, which would provide picnic foods. I would suggest the Mousetrap, though, which is also in the Landsdowne Center, off of Tates Creek Road. It has great, fresh cheeses, meats, breads, salads, etc., that are excellent. You cannot pass on the pimento cheese.

Have a great trip. By the way, I love Colorado. My family lived there for years. It%26#39;s a great state.

If you want some amazing pasteries for breakfast, head south on Vine/Main St and top in Magee%26#39;s bakery. They usually do a hot item too, like biscuits and gravy, but it is mostly amazing croissants, muffins and rolls.

Annette%26#39;s makes great box lunches. If you take the skywalk from the Radisson over Vine St. you will end up right at their cafe. I%26#39;m not sure if they have a minimum order or not, we%26#39;ve ordered as few as ten. You%26#39;d probably just be able to call and order ahead of time and then stop by and pick them up on your way out. 859-296-6444.

Portifino%26#39;s is a great Italian place with a cozy atmosphere. It is located about 4 - 5 blocks down Main St. to the south. A straight shot from the Radisson.

For excellent Caribbean food go to Atomic Cafe. It is on Limestone St. at 3rd right at the corner of Transylvania University. They have a nice outdoor bar and seating area. I think they have music some nights as well.

The Raddison is close to downtown so some cool local restaurants to consider are:

Bellinis

Natasha%26#39;s

Atomic Cafe

Le Deauville

A La Lucie

Metropole

Any of those are good choices - I am sure they have web sites. Atomic Cafe would be the more economical choice if you like mediterranean.

Have fun!!

Louisville College Bars/Nightlife

4 of us are coming down in April to check out the town and college. Age range is 21-23 so we are looking for all the college bars and hot spots where the UL students and local young crowd hangs.

Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance!!

Also, what hotels would you suggest we stay in close to these bars?

Louisville College Bars/Nightlife

I%26#39;m old, so I don%26#39;t know.

Just stay off my lawn when you%26#39;re in town.

Dang Kids!

Louisville College Bars/Nightlife

Actually Nick, if you%26#39;ll go to a post titled ';Bardstown Rd. Bars'; by ';lawson10105'; last posted on Jan. 16, you%26#39;ll see an extensive list of bars compiled by Seagrover. That should be enough to keep you busy while you%26#39;re here.

Have fun.

Thanks.

Anyone from U of L or know what bars the UL students tend to hang out at?

Tailgaters Sports Bar, 2787 S Floyd St., Granville Inn, 1601 S. 3rd St, and Magnolia Bar %26amp; Grill, 1398 S. 2nd St. are college bars close to U of L. Check out Baxter Avenue/Bardstown Rd bars also. Be safe and have fun. Check out Hilton Garden Inn or La Quinta Inn.

if you go to 4th street live on the weekend you are bound to run into a bunch of UofL kids. you can walk down 4th street from bar to bar with beer in hand.

i%26#39;d do that one night and then check out baxter avenue another night. both places have tons of bars, so if you don%26#39;t find what you want just walk next door until you do.

    Cabin Rental Needed

My best friend and I are looking for a very nice clean 2 bedroom/2 full bath cabin rental in the Elizabethtown area as a place for us to meet and visit halfway between where we live. Any suggestions will be looked at and considered.

Thank you for helping us get together for the first time in several years!

    MamaBird4

    Cabin Rental Needed

I don%26#39;t know of any cabin rentals in E-town. There are plenty of hotel rooms, though. You might want to consider some of the cabin rentals at the nearby lakes like Nolin, Rough River, or Barren. Also, I believe there are cabin rentals at Mammoth Cave. These recreation areas are all within an hour of Elizabethtown. Good Luck.

Dining for large group going to Creation Museum

I was wondering how close the Golden Corral is to the Creation Museum we have over 100 people going to the Creation Museum and are heading back to Indianapolis after that. Is there anywhere that can satisfy our hunger after leaving the museum?

    Thank you.

Dining for large group going to Creation Museum

    hahahahahahahahahahahahhaahahahaha

Dining for large group going to Creation Museum

There is a Golden Corral in Lawrenceburg IN, about ten miles away from the Creation Museum. It%26#39;s on U.S. 50, just off I-275. It%26#39;s the only Indiana exit off I-275. Keep in mind, it%26#39;s not right off the expressway...you%26#39;ll have to go about 3 1/2 miles into Lawrenceburg to get there.

Argosy Casino is only about 10 miles away. They have buffets and can definitely handle large crowds.

  • Louisville Garden - close hotel w/teens

I am taking my son and his buddy to see the Gigantour at the Louisville Gardens in April. We are going to have to spend the night due to the long drive. Which hotel is closest? The boys are 16 and 17, is there a hotel they could walk to and from safely on a Saturday night?

Louisville Garden - close hotel w/teens

Going soley on Google maps, the closest hotel is the Seelbach Hilton Louisville鈥? it%26#39;s roughly 2 blocks away.

Funny, I came here to ask if it walking from the Marriot Courtyard to the Louisville Gardens would be safe to do late at night - that%26#39;s about an 8-9 block hike. We%26#39;re going to the Gigantour in April as well. :) I%26#39;d be interested in hearing from the locals on your question as well as mine, no idea what their downtown is like. I%26#39;d never do this in, say, Atlanta!

Louisville Garden - close hotel w/teens

Hi guys! First, our downtown area is safe to walk. You might also look at the trolley schedule, as that is a super easy way to get around downtown and not have to worry about parking, etc.

    ridetarc.org/special-services/downtowntrolle鈥?/a>

You%26#39;ll see it goes right to 5th and Muhammed Ali where the Gardens is located.

The Seelbach is an old restoration hotel- lots of history and very pretty. However, it%26#39;s rather expensive, and the rooms are small. I think a better choice would be the Hyatt (next to 4th Street Live)the Galt House or Marriott.

There are a few athletic events which are held that weekend in conjunction with the Derby festival, so get your rooms stat!

I agree, downtown is pretty safe. For a 16 and a 17 year old with common sense, they shouldn%26#39;t have any problems at all. The outer areas of downtown can get a little sketchy, but if you are ';downtown'; i.e. around the skyscrapers you%26#39;re perfectly fine.

The Seelbach is one of the nicest hotels in the city and very expensive. I would go with the Holiday Inn on Broadway or the marriot. The marriot is closer but also probably more expensive.

make sure you check out 4th street live while downtown, lots of restaurants, hard rock cafe, etc.

Wow, you guys are the best - thank you!

Thank you very much for the responses, I feel better now!

    Bachelor/Bachelorette Weekend

We are trying to book a hotel for a Bachelor/Bachelorette weekend in downtown Louisville and was wondering what would be best. We have thought about the Louisville Downtown Marriott, the Marriott Courtyard and the Seelbach Hilton. Someone suggested the Seelbach but I saw some pictures of the rooms and I%26#39;m not quite sure that%26#39;s what we%26#39;re looking for. We%26#39;re all around 25 and want to be close to all the restaurants and bars downtown. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

    Bachelor/Bachelorette Weekend

I don%26#39;t think the Seelbach is right either. It%26#39;s more of a romantic, cozy type hotel. Tiny rooms, really. The Marriott , Hyatt or Galt House would be fine for you

    Bachelor/Bachelorette Weekend

The downtown marriot or the hyatt is right in the middle of things....very close to 4th st. The rooms are a little pricy there, but great for a special occasion.

If your looking for something cheaper... the downtown holiday inn on broadway is just a short cab ride away [ a few blocks] and looks like every other holiday inn in the world..... for about half the price of the marriot.

I belive there is also a hampton inn thats nice almost across from the marriot. is on the same street... i would try a search.

    Good luck!!!
