Louisville Hotels

I%26#39;m looking for for a hotel for the Memorial Day weekend. What hotel areas would be in a safe neighborhood? Will likely be going down to waterfront park, but a 10 mile drive to the park would be ok. Thanks.

Louisville Hotels

Safety isn%26#39;t really an issue when choosing a hotel. There are the airport hotels located off the interstate which offer no frills, basic stays and shuttle service to airport, etc. Those are okay, but tend to be a bit noisy and there are few restaurants or other places of interest around there. There are many hotels in the I-64 /Hurstbourne Lane area, While there are nearby shopping malls and a plethora of chain restaurants and stores, the traffic is horrible just about any time of the day. Therefore, for visitors wanting to see the downtown sights, I recommend a downtown hotel such as the Mariott, Hyatt, Galt House or one of the historical hotels, Seelbach and Brown. We also have many wonderful B%26amp;Bs in the old Louisville area which are convenient to downtown. There is a decent Ramada Inn off Zorn Ave by the river and I-71 where we occasionally send clients. Some of the rooms are a bit dated, but it%26#39;s not a bad place. If you can use Priceline to bid for a downtowmn hotel, you may be very happy with the results. Often people bid 4 star and get the Hyatt or Galt House for 70 dollars or less.

Louisville Hotels

Stick to one of the hotels on the waterfront or out on Hurtsbourne Lane. Dont stay at the Holiday Inn on Broadway Ave (just outside of downtown), any of the hotels in southern indiana, or out by the airport. I lived right off Hurtsbourne for 3 years and traffic is not all that bad if you%26#39;re not going very far from the interstate.

Planning trip with 3 & 5 yr olds

My husband %26amp; I are planning a trip to KY this summer with our 2 young kids. Where in Kentucky should we stay???

We will be camping while we%26#39;re there (we have a 5th wheel trailer), and would like to visit some ';family-friendly'; area attractions, maybe a cave, possible horseback riding, beaches.

We appreciate any suggestions!

With your priorities, I%26#39;d recommend the Mammoth Cave Area, or the Land Between the lakes area. The latter won%26#39;t have a cave, but would have lots of other family-friendly activities plus beaches. You can check out more about it at http://www.lbl.org/

Forgot to mention - NUMEROUS places to camp in LBL area - 3 state parks - Kenlake, Kentucky Lake SP, and Lake Barkley SP. Lots and LOTS of primitive spots between the lakes besides 3 with hook-ups.

We really liked Carter Caves on the east-side of the state. There are several small and accessible caves, some easy hikes, canoeing and a pool. I can%26#39;t remember if there were horses.

Also if you have horse fans, plan to stop at Kentucky Horse Park for at least half a day.

Lexington Adult Clubs

I’m driving up to the Spearmint Rhino in Lexington this weekend to see a friend that is feature dancing at the club. Can anyone give me a heads up on this club?

Well...that would be ladies, with no apostrophe. Lady%26#39;s would indicate that she owned someting. Lady%26#39;s coat, lady%26#39;s opinion, lady%26#39;s esteem, etc. Of course, I%26#39;m giving you a third grader%26#39;s English lesson here. I have no doubt you are searching for ladies with little education or intelligence, just like yourself. Have a great trip and be sure to use protection.

There is also Solid Platinum gentleman%26#39;s club. It%26#39;s not as nice as Rhino but can be alot of fun. Both clubs have hot ladies. But I haven%26#39;t been to Platinum in awhile and I think most of their better dancers have moved to Rhino. There a few other clubs in town but I wouldn%26#39;t recommend any of them. Stick to Rhino %26amp; Platinum. Have fun.

Need summer wkend lake getaway w/in 3 hrs of Louisville

Help, we are looking for a really nice place on a lake to hang out with another family during the summer. Four teenagers and two sets of parents looking for a two night get-away to swim, make campfires, stay in really nice condo or townhouse (willing to pay $150ish a night) to get a great weekend together before our oldest go off to college.

Want a couple of restaurants, but to be able to make a few meals in the kitchen. Boating is fine, but a good place to hang out in nice surroundings and nice accomodations. Any ideas? Gatlinburg is too far for this trip.

i too would recommend a houseboat ... burnside marina has the best rates of any houseboat company on lake cumberland ... i don%26#39;t think you are going to be able to find anything that large to accomodate everybody for $150 per night ......

I don%26#39;t know of any in Lexington but there is an indoor flea market in Versailles. It%26#39;s about 10 miles from Lexington.

There are several antique markets though. One is on Manchester St. It is open one weekend a month. I%26#39;ll try to find the schedule. There is also an antique market in Meadowthorpe shopping center.

The Richwood Flea Market is about an hour north of Lexington, and about 20 minutes south of Cincinnati.

Hi, about 20 minutes east of Lexington is Winchester, they have a peddlers mall which is the same thing as a fleamarket except you take each item you want to purchase to one centrail cash register. Then if you want to drive about 30 minutes South of lexington you will be in richmond, they have a peddlers mall and a Fleamarket.

In Georgetown (About 20 minutes from lex) There is another fleamarket that is pretty good, and lastly in Shelbyville there is a HUGE fleamarket, it is between frankfort and Louisville! The best time to go is during the spring/summer so that outside vendors will be there!

Ryder Cup Houses for rent

First, I am not a real estate agent and I am not making any money for mentioning this! 2 ladies who own/work in a boutique here (which I love) have expressed an interest in renting their houses. The Ryder cup Accommodation website is exactly where they should advertise. I found them in the world golf magazine. I have booked a house through that site and it has gone very smoothly although there was slim pickings when I booked it. Here is a four bedroom house and the owner is asking for $22,000 - rydercup-accommodation.com/鈥?/a> so your friends could advertise for at least that amount.

The house I have booked is in the Hylands. I am told it is 30 mins from Valhalla - is that true?

Hi Una. The Highlands is pretty broad. That is a large area centered around Bardstown Road which stretches from Broadway to Taylorsville Road. Which street did you rent on? I know the area well. You probably will have to park at Oxmoor or some other property and shuttle. I%26#39;m not sure how they%26#39;ll handle the traffic yet. I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll have any traffic problems, though.

I%26#39;m told the shuttle-only radius is 3 miles from Valhalla. Can you tell me how far is the Highlands area from the golf club?

At first I was shocked at how much they were asking for too for some properties, but when the prices are broken down it actually ends up cheaper per person than most hotels. We have ended up paying $18,000 for a 4 bedroom house which can accommodate 8 people. Over the 10 nights it works out at $225 per person per night. I know of 1 other client at the moment who will need a house to rent. If you advertise the 5 bed for less than $23,000, it should be scooped up quite quickly. It would be nice if you could let me know also when they advertise it so I can have first refusal.

However, if you are in the lower Highlands, you%26#39;ll have to travel the Watterson Expressway and Bardstown road which will be slow.

I won%26#39;t show the full address here for security reasons, but the house is on the lower end. We assumed we would have to travel to the shuttle but there are cars with drivers ordered for us for that week.

The traffic is going to be so heavy that there is no way that cars can drive to the course. The only direct vehicles allowed to do that will be helicopters. I%26#39;ll give you an email soon - is your name case sensitive on your address?

According to this TV Report during the Ryder Cup in 2006 there was a 6 mile/ 8 km block off around the the K Club in Straffan, Co. Kildare Ireland.

We are staying at the Raddison the Friday of the Makers Mark hub-bub and could use some info and suggestions.

How far is the hotel from the Keeneland track? We will be driving in from Louisville that morning and wanted to maybe check in before the races.

Any suggestions for supper near the Raddison and would I need reservations that particular night?

Breakfast the next morning? Even on the way to Loretto?

And finally - any suggestions of a place that would fix a ';picnic style'; lunch for us to take to the distillery with us?

No offense to TGI Fridays,Crackerbarrel, etc. but you have to support the local places. Plus, I don%26#39;t travel to Kentucky for Mexican food.

RussL, there are plenty of great places to eat downtown, within easy walking distance from the Raddison. We like to go somewhat upscale, and here are some restarants which rarely disappoint: Dudley%26#39;s, A La Lucie, Le Deauville, Metropol, Gratz Park Inn. If you want a steak house, Columbia is a good bet. There are plenty of other good places but these are the ones which come to mind which you can walk to in 15 minutes or less from the Radisson. Definitely make reservations for any of them. If you plan to be at the track all day, I suggest 8:00 or so, to give yourself time to clean up and change clothes. The track is perhaps 20 minutes away (by car). It can be considerably longer depending on the traffic leaving the track.

De Shay%26#39;s is right there. it is a great steakhouse. If you are driving from louisville it would be much closer to go straight to keeneland. Get off of I-64 at the frankfort/versaills exit and go towards versaills (pronounced Ver-sails not Versi) follow the signs. For breckfast look for the nearest Ramsey%26#39;s. there are several in lex. they have an awesome breckfast. Check out the Big Blue Martini in the lobby of the raddison. It is very good on sunday nights. hope you have fun.

All the suggestions made by the two previous posters are good bets for high quality, local food downtown. Ramsey%26#39;s is great for breakfast or a low key, reasonably priced lunch or dinner. Go to the one on East High St, they have a few around Lexington, but they aren%26#39;t a ';chain';. It is about as ';Kentucky'; as you get food-wise. Ramsey%26#39;s might actually be a good place to call about a picnic style lunch too.

If you are looking for a night spot, Cheapside Bar and Grill is a nice place. They always have live Blues on the weekends and if the weather is decent, they have an incredible patio.

If you want to try some local dishes try a ';Kentucky Hot Brown'; or ';Derby Pie';. Yum!

I live downtown, and have to say that Alfalfa%26#39;s is my favorite for breakfast/brunch. It is heavily vegetarian, but also has plenty of meat otpions. Magee%26#39;s Bakery on Main Street is also a nice option. I think Jonathan%26#39;s does a nice job with creating innovative regional foods and is downtown as well. Cheapside is good, but more casual. It has a GREAT patio. The patios are all nice in Lexington, a great fringe benefit of our smoking ban!

Bellini%26#39;s is also good Italian. If you want to go out about 10 mintues to Tates Creek Road, Malone%26#39;s, Sal%26#39;s, and Merrick Inn are really close together. There is also a Fresh Market, which would provide picnic foods. I would suggest the Mousetrap, though, which is also in the Landsdowne Center, off of Tates Creek Road. It has great, fresh cheeses, meats, breads, salads, etc., that are excellent. You cannot pass on the pimento cheese.

Have a great trip. By the way, I love Colorado. My family lived there for years. It%26#39;s a great state.

If you want some amazing pasteries for breakfast, head south on Vine/Main St and top in Magee%26#39;s bakery. They usually do a hot item too, like biscuits and gravy, but it is mostly amazing croissants, muffins and rolls.

Annette%26#39;s makes great box lunches. If you take the skywalk from the Radisson over Vine St. you will end up right at their cafe. I%26#39;m not sure if they have a minimum order or not, we%26#39;ve ordered as few as ten. You%26#39;d probably just be able to call and order ahead of time and then stop by and pick them up on your way out. 859-296-6444.

Portifino%26#39;s is a great Italian place with a cozy atmosphere. It is located about 4 - 5 blocks down Main St. to the south. A straight shot from the Radisson.

For excellent Caribbean food go to Atomic Cafe. It is on Limestone St. at 3rd right at the corner of Transylvania University. They have a nice outdoor bar and seating area. I think they have music some nights as well.

The Raddison is close to downtown so some cool local restaurants to consider are:

Any of those are good choices - I am sure they have web sites. Atomic Cafe would be the more economical choice if you like mediterranean.
